Epworth Park was established in 1870 as a Methodist Camp Ground.

Methodist Camp Meetings were later replaced by the Chautauqua movement.
The Chautauqua movement was a national movement with beginnings at a Methodist Retreat on Chautauqua Lake, New York. People gathered from far and wide including individuals of notoriety and fame. Epworth Park in Bethesda, Ohio celebrates Chautauqua Homecoming Days annually in July.
